AEW’s Full Gear 2024, held at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, on November 23, delivered thrilling action, surprise twists, and dramatic storytelling. Here’s a breakdown of the night’s key moments and match results:
•Pre-Show Highlights: All of the social media talk prior to Full Gear was about the BOOM! ( insert boom emoji 💥)
“Big Boom” AJ, also known as the “Costco Guy,” defeated QT Marshall in a feel-good moment. Prior to the match it was announced that social media star ‘The Rizzler’ would be the special guest timekeeper, which the crowd erupted to one of the biggest pops of the night. This match more than delivered, and created a ton of buzz in the entertainment world. Hopefully we can see the Costco gang again in the near future!
Anna Jay triumphed over home town girl Deonna Purrazzo, and Buddy Matthews won a four-way match that was absolutely must see
•AEW TNT Championship: Daniel Garcia captured the TNT title, defeating Jack Perry via submission to secure a career-defining win.
•AEW TBS Championship: Mercedes Moné successfully defended her title against Kris Statlander in one of AEW’s longest women’s matches, showcasing both competitors’ skills.
•Notable Singles Matches: Bobby Lashley defeated Swerve Strickland in a physical bout, and Konosuke Takeshita retained the AEW International Championship against Ricochet in a thrilling contest.
•Tag Team Action: Private Party retained the AEW World Tag Team Championship in a four-way match against The Outrunners, The Acclaimed, and Kings of the Black Throne. There was heavy teases of a ‘The Acclaimed’ split.
• Adam “Hangman” Page vs. Jay White: In a marquee matchup, Jay White defeated Adam Page in a thrilling and fiercely contested battle. The match highlighted White’s technical prowess and Page’s unrelenting resilience, further solidifying White’s top-tier status in AEW. This match was very solid and continued a story
• Kyle Fletcher vs. Will Ospreay: In what many are calling the match of the night, Kyle Fletcher triumphed over Will Ospreay in a hard-fought, high-flying contest. The two displayed incredible athleticism and storytelling, delivering a match that will be remembered as one of AEW’s best of the year. This match became VERY brutal in the last 8 minutes. At one point Kyle Fletcher tombstone piledrived Will Ospreay from the ring apron onto the steel steps, leaving all the fans in complete and utter shock. This is a HUGE victory for Kyle, and is a sign of a major push to come
•MJF vs. Roderick Strong: MJF secured a submission victory over Roderick Strong, reaffirming his dominance in AEW. After the match, MJF continued to attack Strong until Adam Cole and the rest of The Kingdom came out to make the save. Kyle O’reily came out and showed some frustrations with Adam Cole
•Mariah May’s Betrayal: In a shocking segment, Mariah May turned on her former best friend Mina Shirakawa, attacking her during a celebratory moment, furthering their personal feud. Mariah May is truly showing she is one of the best heels in all of professional wrestling.
•AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley retained his title against Orange Cassidy in a brutal main event. The aftermath included chaos with appearances by Adam Page, Christian Cage, and Jay White. Following the match, the ‘Death Riders’ made their way to the back parking lot in hopes to get away in their pick up truck, when out of nowhere came in a spray painted car that T-Boned the get away truck, causing the Death Riders to flee via a different vehicle. Once the camera panned to whom was driving the spray painted car, it was revealed to be none other that AEW original Darby Allin.
Overall I would rate AEW Full Gear 2024 a solid 8.7/10 (8.7 BOOMS 💥)
